Jean Lander

LAURIUM - Jean J. (Phillips) Lander, 91, a resident of 117 Osceola St., Laurium, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Portage Pointe in Hancock.

Jean was born December 4, 1922, in Calumet, a daughter of the late William and Carrie (Gillette) Phillips. She attended the Calumet Schools. She was married on January 5, 1946, to Lloyd Lander, and he preceded her in death on January 18, 2013, after 67 years.

Jean worked at the Ben Franklin Store in Laurium and as a Nurses Aid at Cypress Manor in Hancock.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Caroline, Virginia, and Kathleen; one grandson, Steven; and her mother and father.

She attended the Mohawk United Methodist Church and was a member of the U.M.W. of the church. Jean was also a member of the Keweenaw Kernewek Cornish Connection of the Copper Country.

Surviving are six daughters, Carol Rosemergy of Calumet, Laurel (Jim) Perko of Marquette, Deborah (Allyn) Schultz of Owosso, Mich., Yvette Lander of Marquette, Yvonne Lander of Hubbell, Dawn (Steve) McCormick of Waukesha, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, June Burich of Laurium; sister in law, Ruby Skufca; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2014, in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Bob White to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
