BLAINE, Minn. - Ryan Daavettila scored twice with the extra attacker, but it was not enough for the Finlandia men's hockey team to get even with Bethel University Saturday.

The Royals used four straight goals, three in the second period, to hold off the Lions 4-3.

Scott Vargas put the Lions (1-12-1) in the lead at 6:27 of the first and the advantage held up for nearly 20 minutes, but Bethel scored three in the second period and again at 5:12 of the third for a 4-1 edge.

With goalie Jordan Marr pulled, Daavettila scored with 2:02 and 43 seconds to play, but there was no equalizer to be had.

Marr made 20 saves for Finlandia, which had a 30-24 shot advantage.

The Lions return to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play this weekend with a home-and-home against Northland College beginning Friday night at Houghton County Arena.

HANCOCK - A third-period tie lasted just 21 seconds for the Finlandia women's hockey team before Augsburg scored the first of two goals late to leave Houghton County Arena Saturday with a 4-2 victory and a series sweep.

After falling behind 40 seconds in, Finlandia evened up the game with just 18 seconds remaining in the second period on Alena Fiala's power-play goal.

Augsburg jumped ahead just 2:45 into the third, but Lindsey Jackman capitalized on a power play at 10:35 to tie the game.

Kimmy Davis scored just 21 seconds later to but the Auggies back ahead and they added an insurance goal at 16:44.

Taylor Gustafson made 25 saves for the Lions (0-12), who travel to St. Norbert in NCHA play next weekend.
