To the editor:
I want to send a special thank you to all the energetic volunteers who joined our efforts for Make a Difference Day in Hancock on Saturday, October 26, 2013.
The blustery wind and occasional snow flake did not deter us from our appointed tasks. Leaves were raked and bagged, trash was collected, yards were trimmed, and two Maasto Hiito trail bridges repaired. All this was accomplished by those who gave of their time and labor to make our community a better place.
Thank you to the employees and families of OHM; the students of Michigan Tech, Finlandia and Hancock High School; employees of Portage Health; downtown Hancock business owners and the generous members of our community. We were even joined by a gentleman visiting from the state of New York who saw the posters and decided to take part.
Thank you to Kurt Hauglie of the DMG, Sarah Blakely of TV6, Bryanna Riutta of Brockit Photography and the City of Hancock for their support of this very successful event. My gratitude goes to Jessie Stapleton of MTU Student Services, and to Susan Burack, Bonnie Holland and Allyson Jabusch of Hancock for all their organizational effort.
With great appreciation,
