Is nothing sacred anymore?

November 8, 2013
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

Apparently nothing is sacred (literally).

Volunteers in the Hancock community spent the last few months refurbishing the Sisters of St. Joseph Grotto (rock enclosure for display of a statue) that was on the grounds of the old St. Joseph's hospital.

They did a great job with much work and donated plants and flowers to create a place which people could visit and enjoy.

Last week a group of individuals vandalized the site, smashing and proceeding to bury a statue of Mary holding baby Jesus.

The statue of St. Francis standing in the Grotto was also damaged.

It is a sad day when a group of young people, with a lack of anything better to do, would choose to have done this. Shame on them.
