Nordic ski club says ‘thank you’

November 7, 2013
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club would like to thank all who helped in large and small ways with our recent benefit concert, the "Maasto Middle Bridge Music Jam", held Saturday Oct.12 at the Orpheum. We thank Mike Shupe of the Orpheum for being very gracious in hosting the event, for helpful suggestions, assisting with promotion, doing an excellent professional job on the sound board, and to him and his crew for making sure everyone involved had a great time. We thank the bands, many gifted local musicians who generously donated their time and talent: Erika Vye and Steve Brimm; Craic (Libby Meyer, Marshall Weathersby, Kora Johnson, and Mike Christiansen); Real Time (Mike Irish, Charles White, Mike C., Kyle Frazier, Tim Havens); Keweenaw Brewgrass (Marshall W., Craig Kurtz, Doug Oppliger, Dennis Dube, Jim Hertel, and Bogue Sandberg); also to Rhythm 203 (Sue Ellen Kingsley, Phyllis Fredendall, and Norm Kendall) for offering to play. Thank you to all who supported the event in various ways: Kurt Hauglie and the Daily Mining Gazette for the front page article about our bridge replacement project which ran the week of our fundraiser; Taylor Pomroy for designing an eye catching promotional poster for us; Sarah and Scott Kuhl for putting together the slide show; Arni Ronis at Down Wind Sports, for donating gear which we were able to use for a silent auction; Don Savera, for guidance with this and other fundraising efforts; Chris Schmidt, for making up an attractive web page for the event, and KNSC webmaster Connie Julien for making many updates to our website. Many thanks to Mark Roberts, for helping in multiple ways ranging from researching bridge designs to building temporary repairs to promoting the event and selling tickets. Thanks also go out to all who attended, and also to the many folks who sold tickets. Last, we give a standing ovation to Glenn Anderson and Hancock's City Council for our partnership in all aspects of keeping the Maasto Hiihto/Churning Rapids Trails available to the public.
