GLADSTONE - The Hancock Post 186 American Legion baseball team bounced back from a mercy-rule defeat to salvage a split in Mid-Pen League play against the Gladstone Indians Sunday, though only the loss will count in the league standings.
Hancock got out to a fast start, scoring three times in the first on RBI doubles from Dax Durocher and Tyler LaDuron. Hancock had four hits in the first inning and one for the rest of the game as Gladstone zoomed past to the 13-3 victory.
Mike Saari took the loss, while LaDuron recorded a pair of hits.
In the second game, Brady Turner went the distance for the winners, scattering 10 hits and striking out three.
Turner also had three hits, while Brad Juntunen, Saari, LaDuron and Gabe Rupright all had two.
Only the first three games of the season count for Mid-Pen League purposes and the teams had already played twice in Hancock with Gladstone winning both.
Hancock will be making up a home game with the Marquette Blues Wednesday at 6 p.m.
