July 3, 2013
The Daily Mining Gazette

L'ANSE - The L'Anse Lakers handed Stanton just its second defeat of the 2013 Twilight League season, outslugging the Wildcats 15-13 in a league game Thursday.

Stanton led 4-0 after an inning and a half before a seven-run third inning gave L'Anse a lead for just a half-inning. The Wildcats added six more in the top of the fourth for a 10-8 lead, only for L'Anse to score three times in its half to go ahead 11-10.

A four-run sixth reinforced the hosts' advantage and Tyler LaDuron helped hold Stanton to just three runs in the seventh.

The winners got an RBI from all but one player in the lineup. Travis Tollefson had three hits and Alex VanWagner, LaDuron, Joey Richard, Scott Gerzetich and Brett Martinez all had two.

Kris Turunen had just one hit, but it was a three-run homer and he was the winning pitcher. LaDuron and Tollefson also had homers.

Three Wildcats homered, including Paul Kuoppala, who hit a grand slam.

At Dollar Bay, BlueSky Health topped Mosquito Inn-Toivola 13-8.

Rexx Janowiak, Tyler Ebben and Will Williams had two hits apiece in defeat.

No stats were available for the winners.
