HOUGHTON - Payton Dube struck out 15 batters for her Aspirus Keweenaw Minor (age 9-10) softball team Saturday as it won the league championship 6-3 over Douglass Agency in Chassell.
Aspirus scored twice in the top of the third on a bases-loaded walk to Marina Kero and Daitlyn Markham's RBI single, only for Douglass to get back to within 2-1 after Lily Turner's RBI single.
Dube and Douglass's Josie Connor settled in, with Aspirus finally breaking the ice in the fifth with three runs. Dube helped her cause with a long two-run single and Kero had another RBI single.
Douglass picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth but no more.
D'Andra Kero had two hits for the winners, while Reilli Therrian had two of Douglass's four hits.
In the Minor baseball finale at Hancock, J. Peltier Construction rolled to a 9-3 win over Auto Pro Glass and Tire.
JPC got all the runs it would need in the bottom of the first after Davin Hill and Mason Mikesch contributed RBI singles and Dylan Primeau drove in two more runs.
Auto Pro tightened it up considerably in the top of the third with a two-out rally keyed by Cody Sebbas' two-RBI triple. He later scored on a passed ball.
JPC all but put the game away with five in the bottom of the third, however. Dylan Horning had an RBI single, Mikesch drove in another run, Jonah Horning absorbed a bases-loaded beanball for a run and Primeau singled in two more runs.
Hill was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out 11 and walked one. Horning, Hill, Primeau and Mikesch had two hits apiece.
