BESSEMER - Little League All-Star tournament play kicked off in Major (age 11-12) softball over the weekend, and Portage Lake recovered from an early defeat to advance to a third district game today.

Saturday, Negaunee stopped Portage Lake 6-3 despite two hits and two runs scored from Milly Hoskins. Jillian Parker pitched for Portage, allowing four hits and four strikeouts.

Sunday, Portage Lake bounced Baraga County 19-6, scoring seven runs in the first inning. Walks were a factor, but so were base hits from Hoskins and Delaney Heinonen. Emma Almquist cleared the bases with a double as Portage Lake put it away in the second inning.

Hoskins was the winning pitcher.

PL advances to face Penokee Range, which beat Baraga County 15-4 on Saturday, in an elimination game tonight in Bessemer at 6:30 p.m.
