NEWBERRY - The Hancock Post 186 American Legion baseball team bounced back from a loss in its opening game to win its last three and the Newberry Tournament Sunday.
In the championship game, Brady Turner pitched five innings of relief and allowed just two hits with six strikeouts. He was named most valuable player in the championship game, a 6-3 win over host Newberry.
Hancock produced 10 hits, with Brad Juntunen, Alex VanWagner and Tyler LaDuron notching two apiece.
Earlier, Hancock edged Gladstone 3-2 after Juntunen drove in Mike Saari with the eventual winning run in the sixth inning on a double. Juntunen finished with two hits.
Hancock lost its first game 4-3 to Alpena after managing just three hits, wasting an 11 strikeout-effort from LaDuron, and failed to score in the first five innings of its second game until scoring five times in the sixth to beat Onaway 5-1. VanWagner, LaDuron and Beau Dupuis had two hits apiece.
