CALUMET - Elaine B. Leinonen, 79, a former resident of the Copper Country and Ironwood, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Arden Rehab and Healthcare near Seattle, Wash. where she had been living to be near her daughter.
She was born August 29, 1933, in Ironwood, a daughter of the late Jacob and Helga (Sikkala) Kleimola. Elaine graduated from the Ironwood High School with the Class of 1950.
She was married to Karl Leinonen for 43 years before he preceded her in death in September, 1995.
Surviving are three daughters, TerryLynn Aldrich of Ann Arbor, Mich., Vicky O'Mara of Westland, Mich., and Caprice Leinonen of Bellevue, Wash.; three sons, Jerry Leinonen of Calumet, David Leinonen of El Mira, Mich., and Brock Leinonen of Westland, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Scott and Phil Fountain, Carmen Osier, Jill Bastian, Becky Sisson, Amy, John and Bill Leinonen, Richard Hietala, Amber Leinonen and Brandon and Jessie Leinonen; four great-grandchildren, Destiny Fountain, Penelope Osier, Emma and Chole Sisson and Alyessa Leinonen; brother, Donald Kleimola of Ramsey, Mich.; half-brother, Wayne Sikkela of Austin, Texas.
A family memorial service will be held at a future date when together Elaine and Karl's ashes will be spread in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Also, a celebration of life memorial service will be held at Arden Rehab and Healthcare in June to provide closure for the caring staff and fellow residents who enjoyed having Elaine with them over the last nine months.
