MINNETRISTA, Minn. - Finlandia doubled its season win total in a single day on the baseball diamond, sweeping a doubleheader against Crown College Monday by scores of 13-2 and 17-6.
The victories put the Lions at 4-20 overall going into a single nine-inning game at Northland College today.
In game one, the Lions busted things open by scoring six times in the fourth inning for a 10-0 lead.
Joe Richard, C.J. Lepisto and Luke Paul all had three-hit games, with Lepisto driving in five runs.
Starting pitcher Wesley Williams went the distance, allowing two earned runs on four hits. He struck out eight and walked six.
In the second game, the Lions responded to two separate deficits, closing the game with 15 runs in their last three at-bats.
Finlandia trailed 1-0 after an inning and 6-2 after four, but took the lead for good with a seven-run fifth, taking advantage of four Crown errors.
Cody Mahler, Luke Paul and Tory Sheffer had the best offensive days. All three had three hits, with Sheffer driving in four runs and scoring three times and both Paul and Mahler with two RBIs and two runs.
Paul split pitching duties with Jesus Vasquez, coming in with two outs in the fourth inning and picking up the win in relief. The Hancock native allowed just three hits and no runs in his 3 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking three.
