April 10, 2013

HANCOCK - In 2008, the community told business owners what they wanted.

Jim and Julie Cortright listened.

After a survey of 1,500 community members for part of the Downtown Houghton marketing plan revealed an overwhelming desire for good Mexican food in town, Jim Cortright, Julie Cortright and Chef Todd Auger decided to act and the idea for Habaeros began.

Habaeros, owned and operated by longtime Library front of house manager Julie Cortright, is continuing to listen to its customers. New menu items, discounts and delivery options are being introduced as a result of customer feedback.

"We've gotten feedback from people on the website and Facebook has been a great source for us to learn what people want or don't want, but most of all people just coming in and saying 'hey this wasn't very good' or 'this was great,'" said Julie Cortright. "The support and the patience from the patrons and the community have been unbelievable."

Habaeros recently revamped their menu to include popular requests, such as chimichangas and classic tacos. All menu items are held to the same high standard of using fresh ingredients and providing delicious Mexican classics - with a twist.

Along with the new menu, Habaeros is offering a variety of specials. From 3-6 p.m. every Monday through Friday patrons are invited to Margarita Madness, a special where not only are the many margaritas offered discounted - the Casa Rita at only $2.99 and specialty margaritas at $4.99 - but appetizers are also $2 off. They are also introducing a Cinco de Mayo Countdown with featured specialty margaritas and special Facebook discounts until May 5. Multiple events are being planned and customers can check their Facebook page for updates. Other specials include a weekly Kids Eat Free night on Tuesdays, free birthday dinners, and student and senior discounts.

Businesses in Hancock and Houghton can now have Habaeros delivered to their offices during lunch hours. The menu includes appetizers, soups, salads and a wide selection of classic Mexican dishes and is ideal for everyday lunches or catered meetings.
