MOHAWK - Paul Joseph Foley, formerly of Mohawk passed away March 24, 2013, at Mesa Springs Nursing Home, in Abilene, Texas.
Prior to moving to Abilrene in 2008, Mr. Foley was a life-long resident of Mohawk. He was born May 27, 1917, the youngest of three sons of Michael and Nellie Foley with older brothers, Robert and John. All have preceded him in death.
Mr. Foley attended local schools and after graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a BA degree in 1939, he returned home to help manage with family grocery and beer business.
In 1966, he went to work for Western U.P. District Health Department. In 1973, he became a registered sanitarian, a position he retired from in 1985.
He married Vilma Mary Vittone May 31, 1943. In April, 2007, his wife and life-long companion, preceded him in death after 64 years of marriage.
Mr. Foley was a loving husband and father.
He was an active member of St. Mary's and Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church men's clubs. Mr. Foley was a great storyteller and an avid fan of the Green Bay Packer and Notre Dame football teams.
Survivors include his son, Jim (Bonnie) of Minneapolis; daughter, Mary (Joe) Engledow of Abilene; three grandchildren, Steven (Angie) Scott (Sarah) and Joe; four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, Sawyer and Sam; brother-in-law, Jim (Dorothy) Vittone.
Funeral services are planned to be held at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ahmeek on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, with Rev. Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.
