Marie Heinonen

LAURIUM - Marie Heinonen, 88, a resident of Laurium, passed away Wednesday morning, March 20, 2013, at the Omega House in Houghton.

She was born in 1924 in Allouez, a daughter of the late Arvid and Esther (Tepsa) Wuokila. She graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1943.

On December 1, 1950, she was married to Paul Heinonen and he preceded her in death November 27, 2008.

Marie worked as a teller/cashier at First National Bank for 13 years.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet.

Preceding her in death were her husband; a grandson, Joshua Heinonen; two brothers, Uno and Arvo; four sisters, Mamie, Esther, Leora and Wilma.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Dean) Nelson of Grand Rapids and Sue (Denny) Gassittie of Laurium; two sons, Dan (Mary) Heinonen of Sedar Bay and Dave Heinonen of Laurium; a sister, Betty Jean (Bill) Standford of Fla. and Allouez; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (McKensay) Heinonen, Nicholas Heinonen, Stephen (Megan), Kristen (Adam), Paul, David, Elizabeth, Rachel and Sarah Nelson; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Olivia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 25 in Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet with Rev. Peter Vorhes to officiate. Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to services in the church. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
