SAINT CLOUD, Fla. - Katherine Melissa (Kunz) Fisher, 44, of Saint Cloud, Fla., died Feb. 25 at Osceola Health Care Center, Saint Cloud with Cornerstone Hospice Care.
She was born in Bethlehem, Penn. to Sandra and Barry Kunz. Kate grew up in Houghton and her mother and former in-laws are here.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Taylor, Samantha and Lucinda; fiance, Charles O'Shield; former husband, Theodore Fisher; mother and step-father, Sandra and Jonathan Henkel of Pelkie; brother, Andrew (Laurie Lett) Kunz of Milwaukee, Wis., and their daughters, Zoe, Alaina, Kaia and Stella; former mother-and father-in-law, Edward and Nancy Fisher of Lake Linden.
She was preceded in death by her father, Barry Kunz.
She attended elementary and middle schools in Champaign, Ill., and graduated from Houghton High School, Suomi College and Barry University in Fla.
Katherine was a Medical Assistant in Minneapolis, Minn., at Urgent Care and the Mall of America until she moved with her family to Florida where she earned her BA degree and teacher certification.
Kate was an enthusiastic teacher of seventh grade science at Neptune Middle School in Saint Cloud, Fla., where students and staff will greatly miss her creative teaching and her care for each person she encountered. Always optimistic, she battled glio blastoma (an aggresive brain cancer) and taught school for a year with it until the cancer took over her body.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Kissimee, Fla. Memorial donations may be made in the name of Katherine Fisher to the Omega House, Houghton.
