Roman Empire, redux

February 15, 2013
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

Here we go again. I'm talking about gun control.

Anything the government registers they find ways to tax, plus all sorts of fees or fines. Evil people won't register their guns. All automobiles are registered and drunk drivers kill more people than automatic rifles.

Before we talk about background checks, let's throw (politically correct) nonsense in the trash can. We need to do some profiling. Who is doing all this killing? At one of the hearings in Washington D.C., a person on the panel said most of the killers were males ages 18 to 24. My guess would be most are city gang bangers.

We can't arm everyone, either. A SWAT team would be killing innocent people.

Steel doors with steel frames and at least two dead bolts on the inside of every school door would go a long way in saving lives; also add big red emergency buttons that would trigger very, very loud ear-piercing sirens and bright flashing lights. Place the buttons at every entrance and in all classrooms, gymnasiums, lunch rooms and study halls. They would alert people of danger and confuse the killer. The sirens and lights would be placed in hallways and foyers and connect to the police department or a central location like a 911 center. I'm sure they could be made bulletproof.

I like to get to the root of the problem - it's not guns or large capacity magazines that kill people. It's self-centered, evil-possessed, Godless people who kill people.

America has gone from a Christian nation to a secular nation. We took the fear of God, prayer and the Ten Commandments out of our schools and away from our children, then teach them it's okay to abort (kill) a baby in the name of birth control. We teach them it's normal to be a homosexual and it's okay for them to get married when God said: "Marriage is between one man and one woman: period."

Children are exposed to violent killings, war-torn countries and violent entertainment on TV and in games every day. Many live in homes with violent, out-of-control parents. Then when kids 14 to 24 act out their aggression, all Hell breaks loose and we ask, "Why?" A better question to ask: Is America going the way of the Roman Empire?
