HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. - The Houghton-Hancock boys' ski team made the cut for the state finals after Division 2 Regional competition Tuesday at Boyne Mountain.
H-H took the last team qualifying spot with a third-place finish in the 12-team field, using depth to book its place at Marquette Mountain Feb. 25.
Petoskey dominated with just 21 points, taking the first three spots in both disciplines, followed by Spring Lake (111.5) and H-H (121).
In giant slalom, H-H grouped five skiers between 12th and 18th, led by Ian Helman (12th). Daniel Henderson (14th), Connor Johnson (16th) and Jacob Jarvis (17th) rounded out the scoring.
On the slalom side, H-H had more points, but Helman medaled in 10th, followed by Henderson (15th), Jarvis (16th) and Tony Stein (21st).
The H-H girls finished one position short of qualifying as a team, as the bids went to Petoskey (57), Harbor Springs (72) and Elk Rapids/Traverse City St. Francis (126).
H-H was fourth with 140, but Leslie Hamar easily qualified as an individual in both disciplines, taking second overall in slalom and third in GS.
