LAKE LINDEN - At Monday's meeting of the Lake Linden-Hubbell Board of Education, the board:
heard a report from Elementary School Coordinator Brad Codere. Three spellers will be going to the regional spelling bee, which will be held Feb. 20 in Houghton. There will be a 100th day celebration at the school today for kindergartners, first-graders and second-graders. For Reading Month in March, the school will do a different program this year instead of One School, One Book program, which it had done for the previous two years. The Elementary Science Fair will take place March 6; this year's Western Upper Peninsula Science Fair has been canceled due to lack of funds. Jump Rope for Heart will be on March 7.
heard a report from Athletic Director Gary Guisfredi. A junior high volleyball game with L'Anse will be changed to a new date. L'Anse will add a seventh-grade football team in addition to its eighth-grade team, which will require a schedule change. Junior high numbers for volleyball are good; the school will have two seventh- and two eighth-grade teams. Guisfredi said he will look into using sixth-graders for the seventh-grade basketball team next year if projected numbers continue to be low. The Michigan Department of Transportation will take down two signs on the right-of-way heading into town honoring Lake Linden's football championships as part of a 20-year update. Guisfredi said he will look at options for the sign.
