Hilda S. Dixon

TUCSON, Ariz.- Hilda S. Dixon, 86, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013.

She was born in Pelkie on April 23, 1926, to William and Eriika (Hiltunen) Paananen.

She attended Pelkie Agricultural School, graduated from Baraga High School as class valedictorian, attended the University of Michigan School of Nursing and continued her career as an RN.

Hilda married Sanfrid Dixon Aug. 11, 1949. They lived and worked in the Detroit area until retiring to Presque Isle, Mich., for a brief period before moving to Tucson, Ariz., where they lived for 30 years.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 20, 2000.

She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Tucson, Ariz., and will be remembered as being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are two sons, Mark (Mary Jo) of Canton, Mich., Guy (Lisa) of Dallas, Texas; two granddaughters, Alaina and Ashley; and one great-grandchild, Xander.

Besides her parents and husband, Hilda was preceded in death by six sisters, Esther, Olga, Alma, Jean, Grace and Anna; and three brothers, Reino, Fred and Waino.

She will be buried in the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Ariz., with her husband.
