DOLLAR BAY - The Jeffers High girls' basketball team is starting to find the knack to winning games and that could be unsettling news for future opponents.
Losers of their first 12 games this season, the Jets won for the second time in their last three games Monday night by posting a 50-38 win over Dollar Bay.
"I was real happy with the way we played tonight," JHS coach Kathleen Storm said. "We hustled all night, and we accomplished our goal of keeping a close eye on Julia Daavettila."

Daavettila, the top scorer this season for the Bays, was limited to nine points. Eight of those markers came in the third quarter when Dollar Bay sliced all but one point off a seven-point halftime deficit.
"With the exception of the third quarter, we just weren't in the game," DBHS coach Steve Krahling said. "We didn't look at all like the team that did so well against Ontonagon last week."
Jets junior guard Shelby Seppanen was largely responsible for shadowing Daavettila, according to her coach.

Jeffers - Haley Makela 4, Stephanie Fraki 5, Abbie Rajala 3, Kelsey Heinonen 20, Maria Halonen 2, Shelby Seppanen 14, Kayla Destrampe 2. FT: 12-18; Rebounds: 35 (Makela 9); Fouls: 19; Fouled out: None; 3-point FG: Heinonen 2.
Dollar Bay - Jamie Sertich 15, Meagan Kangas 13, Carli Daavettila 1, Julia Daavettila 9. FT: 7-14; Rebounds: 27 (Sertich 8); Fouls: 11; Fouled out: J. Daavettila; 3-point FG: Sertich 2, J. Daavettila 1.
"Shelby did a good job of staying in front of her (Daavettila)," Storm noted. "She was able to redirect her away from the basket ... and made her pass the ball off."
The Jets grabbed a quick 10-5 lead in the Copper Country Conference tilt and were up by a 12-10 margin after one quarter behind seven points by Kelsey Heinonen.
The Green and White upped the count to 23-16 by halftime.
The Bays made their best move in the third period as Daavettila hit a triple and another basket to get her team close at 31-30 late in the frame.
The Jets were able to expand a 33-31 lead after three quarters to 41-33 early in the fourth quarter behind three hoops by the hustling Seppanen.
Dollar Bay never seriously threatened after that.
"The thing that bothers me the most was they got to all of the offensive rebounds," Krahling commented. "We were just outhustled and gave up way too many of those to have a shot at winning."
Heinonen had a big game with 20 points for the 2-13 winners (2-5 in the league). Seppanen added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Haley Makela grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
"Those two played real well, but I liked the contributions we got from everyone in this game," said Storm, whose team will host the district tournament late next month.
Dollar Bay, 3-9 overall and 1-5 in the CCC, was led by Jamie Sertich's 15 points and eight rebounds. Meagan Kangas put in 13 more and Daavettila was next with her nine markers.
Jeffers will host Baraga Thursday. DBHS will go to Ewen-Trout Creek the same evening.
