DOLLAR BAY - The Dollar Bay girls rode a fast start to their third win of the season, beating Watersmeet 34-27.

The Bays (3-4) outscored the Nimrods 17-1 in the first quarter.

"At the beginning of the game, everything seemed to work," DB coach Steve Krahling said, pointing to good ball movement offensively and stiff coverage in man-to-man defense.

Dollar Bay maintained its double-digit lead well into the second half until turnovers helped the visitors get back into it.

The Bays got good balance despite foul trouble for leading scorer Julia Daavettila. Jamie Sertich paced DB with 10 points.

Frannie Zelinski scored 10 for Watersmeet.

IRON RIVER - West Iron County, behind Megan Miatech's 23 points and 15 rebounds, broke into the WestPAC win column over Hancock at Charles Greenlund Gymnasium.

"Miatech took advantage of her strength," said Wykons coach Mike Dallavalle, noting the senior scored 12 points in the fourth quarter.

West Iron, leading 23-14 at halftime, rolled 18-7 in the third quarter.

"We had a good size advantage but Hancock is small and quick," Dallavalle said. "We had enough guards to keep up with their shooters. They did a good job of getting the ball inside."

In addition to Miatech, WIC gained inside markers from Emilie Christiansen (10 points, eight rebounds) and Sierra Rasmussen (six points).

"We had good third-quarter defense and Christiansen had eight points," Dallavalle said.

Molly Berg's 10 points topped the Lady Bulldogs.
