Package thief

December 27, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

On Dec. 14, in Houghton, my husband was at home on the phone. He looked out his office window and noticed that the postal carrier had left a package on our steps. A few minutes later, he saw a silver car pull into our driveway and a grey haired woman got out. By the time he got to the door, her car was leaving, and the package was gone. The post office confirmed to us that they did indeed deliver a package to us that day.

We cannot know what was in the package, but we have a pretty good idea: Christmas gifts from a family friend to our daughters. The package contained autographed books by author Grace Lin, personally inscribed to our kids.

It takes a really mean, horrible person to steal Christmas presents from a two-year-old child.
