To the editor:
A big thank you to all the kind people who came to our assistance when I collided with another car at the bottom of Sixth Street in west Houghton Nov. 18.
On that day, I attempted to make a left turn onto M-26 and did not see the car coming down from around the curve near the Houghton Canal Road. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Also, many thanks to my friends and neighbors who have offered me rides, my brother, my friend who lives in my upstairs apartment, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly and Patrolman Zach Wheeler of the Houghton Police Department, who was very kind and helpful.
I have two suggestions to make:
1. Avoid left-handed turns onto highways or any busy streets unless it is necessary. This was my mistake.
he Daily Mining Gazette welcomes letters to the editor from readers.
Letters should be signed and include name, address and telephone number. Names will not be withheld and letters should be no longer than 400 words. No personal attacks. Writers are limited to one letter per month. The Gazette reserves the right to edit letters for length, as well as for spelling and punctuation.
Mail letters to: Letters to the Editor, The Daily Mining Gazette, P.O. Box 368, Houghton, MI 49931. Letters may also be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or submitted on the Gazette's Web site, mininggazette.com, by clicking on "Submit News."
2. Drive with your headlights on during daylight hours. This will make it easier to be seen especially those cars that are of light color and seem to blend into the roadway and their surrounding environment.
Again, many thanks.
