JACKSON, Mich. - Mary Elizabeth Colombe-Nelson, a long-time resident of Jackson, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Allegiance Hospice House.
Born February 23, 1934, to Lawrence and Cecelia (Beauchamp) Colombe in Houghton, she was the oldest of 13 children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Walter Colombe; brother Lawrence Colombe; and Harry Nelson.
Mary is survived by sisters, Catherine (George) Sauvola, Rita (Gerald) O'Connell, Eleanor Sauvola, Dorothy (Ray) Aho, Anne Heckel, Angeline (Melvyn) Lyttinen, Genevieve (Ronald) Kyro, Pauline Pietila; brothers, William Colombe, Richard (Mary Ellen) Colombe and John Colombe.
Mary is also survived by her children: Linda (Scott) Minniear, Bryon Nelson and Paula (Bill Cole) Nelson; and her grandchildren, Andrew Minniear, Gregory Minniear and Sara Cole; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary lived a rich, full life as a sister, a wife, a grandmother, and of course, a wonderful mother. She will be missed by the many family and friends whose lives she has touched.
A memorial service in honor of Mary's life will be held at Arbor North in Jackson on Thursday, January 10, at 1:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 14, at 10 a.m. in St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Houghton.
