Many thanks for Musical Mondays

November 23, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

To the editor:

The Board of Directors of the Keweenaw Heritage Center at St. Anne's in Calumet would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the folks who participated in our Musical Mondays summer music series this year. These musical events have been running for four years now and have been really well received by the community.

We sincerely appreciate that all of the performers over the years who have donated their time in an effort to raise funds for the universal accessibility lift system we are endeavoring to install at the Heritage Center. All who have visited the Heritage Center are well aware of the very steep steps at the front door that have hindered many from easily entering the building.

Through the success of the Musical Mondays fundraising events, we are happy to report the first phase of the lift system was installed this past spring, and we are well on our way to raise the remaining funds needed for the second phase hopefully to be completed next year. This could not have been possible without the generosity of performers and the wonderful folks attending and sharing in this community project.

Special thanks to the following performers who helped out this year: FinnFest Preview - Hilary Virtanen, Dan Maki, Bill White, Kris Kyro Johnson, Linda Kyro, The Kivajat Dancers directed by Kay Seppala, The Ilon Kaiku Kantele Ensemble - Margie Makela, Lois Berg, Barb and Gary Worrall, Julie Beck, Jack Rossberg, Beverly Maynard, Eve Lindsey, Carol Salo and Kay Seppala. Christmas in July - Jon Ensminger and Bob Langseth. The Ethnic Music Night - Dave Bezotte, Bill Frances, Dick Hazzard, Dom Kuiper, Pasi Lautala, Ardys Maki, Pete Manderfield, Jeremiah Mason, Bryan Milde, Barry Peg, Brandon Veale, Carol and David Waisanen, Barbara Lide, Anna Gawboy, Meghan Pachmaer, Ruth Robertson, Amanda Binoniemi, Marcia Goodrich, Karin Schlenker, Janet Wieber and Jo Storaker. The Copper Country Community Band directed by Chris Brown. The Singing Sheriff Ron Lahti with Renee Frantti, Ken & Mary O'Connor and Dave Stahl. First Friday event - Lawrence and Sylvia Ensminger, Dave and Linda Grahek, Carole Baranowski, Bob Langseth, Lois Waldron and Martha Lantz.

The Keweenaw Heritage Center at St. Anne's is truly a community center made possible by generous community members.
