McDonald’s lovin’ Major softball crown

HOUGHTON - McDonald's defeated The Library 10-2 to sweep a best-of-three series for the Portage Lake Little League Major (age 11-12) division softball championship Wednesday.

Julia Nordstrom struck out seven for the winners, allowing only two runs and setting down the side in order in four of the six innings.

Daphne Maki and Emma Almquist had five-hit games, while Andra Campbell and Jada Markham posted two apiece.

Milly Hoskins drove in a run for The Library, while Megan Bugni and Becca Markham scored in defeat.

In the Keweenaw Little League Senior softball title game, Lakes Dairyland took down Calumet Lions 16-2 to complete a 10-0 season. Sarah Audette, Taylor Shepeard and Chelsey Brennan posted two hits each and Audette went the distance in the pitcher's circle, allowing four hits and four walks.

Selena Stromer and Kelsey Fink both had a hit and a run for the Lions.

In PLLL Minor playoff semifinals, Auto Pro Glass and Tire pulled a surprise on Calumet Elks, winning 14-8 behind Jackson Rocchi's 2-for-3 day. Rocchi doubled and hit a three-run inside-the-park homer.

Colton Salani and Shawn Ruotsala started Auto Pro on the right track with two solid innings of pitching apiece, with Rocchi and Carson Chynoweth finishing off the win.

Auto Pro will meet J. Peltier Construction in the final Saturday after JPC put away Tervo Agency in the other semi.

JPC scored five times in both of the first two innings to ice the win early. Davin Hill, Chad Nordstrom, Brandon Norkol and Malakai Sherwood posted two hits apiece, while Nordstrom, Jiseung Choi and Hill pitched two innings apiece.

Austin Kinnunen had two hits in defeat for Tervo.
