HOUGHTON - In a slugfest by the shores of Torch Lake, Calumet Electronics scored at least twice in every inning, going on to a 23-13 Keweenaw Little League Major (age 11-12) baseball victory over Middleton Home Builders Monday.
Middleton Home Builders led 10-3 after the first, but Calumet Electronics held them off the board for the next four innings in a row and started to pile up runs themselves, putting up two in the second and three in each of the next three innings to take the lead before slamming the door with nine in the sixth.
Rylan Anderson led the winners with four hits. He scored four times. Jesse Helminen added three hits and three runs and was the winning pitcher, with 4 1/3 innings pitched and six strikeouts.
Brendan Middleton led Middleton Home Builders. He had three hits and scored three times.
In Portage Lake Little League Minor baseball, Kissel Chevrolet topped Thrivent Financial 13-8.
Bradley Sirard had three singles for Kissel and struck out the side in both of his innings on the mound, allowing just one hit. Emmett and Eli Larson pitched in two hits apiece.
Carter Skewes led Thrivent with a single and a double.
Calumet Elks edged Auto Pro Glass and Tire 9-8. P.J. Donnelly netted the win. Dayton Moyle homered for the winners, while Shane Aho had a pair of extra-base hits for Auto Pro.
Tervo Agency surprised J. Peltier Construction Monday, handing them their first league loss of the season, 7-4.
Tervo established its lead early, collecting four of its six hits in the bottom of the first inning and jumping ahead 4-0.
JPC replied with three in the top of the fourth, but Tervo responded with two more in the bottom half to gain separation.
Tanner Larson and Lars Massie allowed a combined four runs on six hits. They struck out seven and walked five. Isiah Little had a pair of hits for Tervo.
For JPC. Davin Hill and Thomas Bump notched a pair of hits each.
In Senior softball, Lakes Dairyland took care of the Baraga Lions 17-2. Mandy Perreault went 2-for-2, homered and walked twice. She and Sarah Audette combined to allow just one hit over the five innings and struck out nine.
