Library Majors fight back

May 16, 2012
The Daily Mining Gazette

HANCOCK - The Library overcame an early deficit for a 7-4 win over Aspirus Keweenaw Tuesday in Major (age 11-12) division play at Hancock Driving Park.

A first-inning two-RBI single from Garrett Carlson and a second-inning Justin Norkol RBI double helped Sayen's to a 3-1 lead after two innings, but The Library busted out with six runs in the third inning. Pat Cortright tripled in two runs and was followed by Tyler Cleary's second RBI single of the game and a two-run single from Cassidy Becia.

Cortright singled in David Daavettila for an insurance run in his next at-bat, in the fourth inning.

Ashton Janke reached on an error and came around to score on a fifth-inning wild pitch, but that would be Aspirus' only reply.

Walter Crist pitched 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief for the win, striking out six and walking one.

Brody Budweg took the defeat, despite four innings pitched and eight strikeouts.

Cortright led Library with a 3-for-3 outing and four RBIs. Norkol had a pair of hits for Aspirus.

Sayen's Auto scored four times in both the first and third innings for an 8-3 win over Kevin's Self Storage Tuesday. Clayton Sayen earned the victory with Carson Turner pitching in relief.
