Erickson-Crowley pitchers toss no-hitter

HOUGHTON - Nick Voelker and Grant Johnson combined on a no-hitter as Erickson-Crowley Funeral Home defeated Lassila Insurance 3-1 in Keweenaw Little League Major (age 11-12) baseball Monday at the Gipp Recreation Complex in Laurium.

The game was tied at one when Erickson-Crowley scratched out two runs in the bottom of the fifth, leading to the victory. David Haapala took the hard-luck loss despite allowing only three hits himself.

Cooper Twardzik, Dima Kristapovich and Johnson had hits for the winners, while Sam Haapala scored for Lassila.

McDonald's edged LeBlanc's Sales and Service 12-11 in Major girls' softball with help from a pair of RBI hits from Madelyn Pienier. Mialey Brooks was the winning pitcher.

In Portage Lake Little League play at Hancock Driving Park, J. Peltier Construction rolled to a 13-1 win over Thrivent Financial.

JPC scored five times in the first inning and hung four on the board in the third and fifth to remain undefeated at 5-0.

Thomas Bump, Brandon Norkol, Colin Cowell, Chad Nordstrom, Davin Hill and Mason Mikesch combined to allow one run on two hits, strike out 13 and walk seven.

Bump, Mikesch and Nordstrom had two hits apiece.

Bryan Hornung had both hits for Thrivent Financial.

Calumet Elks topped Kissel Chevrolet 13-9 with help from the sibling duo of Quinn and P.J. Donnelly, who led the winners with three hits apiece. Carson Stevens claimed the mound win.

Ethan Jervela's inside-the-park home run was the highlight of the night for Kissel.

In PLLL Minor play from Saturday, Kissel stopped Calumet B 9-7 behind solid pitching and three hits from Bradley Sirard. Eli Oldt and Emmett Larson had two hits apiece.
