Islamic terrorists still a threat

October 13, 2010
The Daily Mining Gazette

Islamic terrorists hate the United States not because of our culture, but as a result of our government's foreign policy, we have been told over and over again by apologists for the extremists.

But a terrorism alert in Europe now raises questions about that claim. Intelligence analysts have stressed the new Islamic extremist threat does not involve the United States. It is targeted at Europe, and Europe alone.

U.S. foreign policy differs greatly from that of most European countries. In some ways the terrorist threat may be linked to NATO involvement in the war in Afghanistan, of course. But several European governments have policies far more favorable than ours to, say, the Palestinians.

The new threat is more evidence that Osama bin Laden and his ilk are more concerned with destroying western culture than with our country's foreign policy. Their motivation is not changing our government's behavior - but is, instead, a desire to destroy those who do not hold their religious beliefs.

They don't want to change us - they want to kill us.
