Many thanks to Range Bank, River Valley Bank, Pat's IGA, Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital, and Homestead Graphics for their enthusiastic support of the 8th annual High School Local History Smackdown, held April 22 at the Calumet Theatre.
It is institutions such as these that foster community spirit and make the Keweenaw such a great place to live and work.
Special thanks to the stellar Mark Wilcox for his fifth stint as Quizmaster, and thanks to the judges: Mark Rowe of the Keweenaw County Historical Society, Scott See of the Keweenaw National Historical Park Advisory Commission and the Michingan Technological University Industrial Archeology program, and Jo Urion from Keweenaw National Historical Park.

Finally, we owe our greatest thanks to the amazing students and their coaches who participated. Their interest shows that knowing history, especially that of our own backyard, can be challenging, interesting, fun and even rewarding.
