CALUMET - Mary Margaret Wilmers, 54, a resident of Calumet, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, November 2, 2009.

She was born on August 17, 1955, in Laurium, a daughter of the late Wilmer and Margaret (Butala) Wilmers. Mary graduated from Calumet High School.

She was employed as a nurse aide for Our Lady of Mercy in Hubbell for several years. During her time there, she showed a genuine compassion for the residents, often visiting them after hours or at the hospital. She was not afraid of the work entailed in caring for even some of the most difficult patients and they grew to love Mary.

Mary's happiest moments were when she was with her family and spending time outdoors by her beloved Lake Superior looking for agates.

Preceding her in death was a brother, Mark Wilmers.

She will be deeply missed by two children, Mariah Fontaine and Christopher Fontaine and their father, Doug Fontaine; two grandsons, Zavier and Alexzander; a sister, Sally (Mark) Koppana of Point Mills; two brothers, William (Jackie) Darnell of Florida Location, James Darnell of Calumet; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, November 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.

Friends may call at the Sacred Heart Church from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday.

The Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the arrangements.
