‘Digital Realities’ on display at the Vertin
By STACEY KUKKONEN, DMG WriterCALUMET - In his first exhibit at the Vertin Gallery in Calumet, Max Seel's photo exhibition, "Digital Realities," is on display.
Seel, a professor of physics at Michigan Technological Univeristy and provost and vice president for academic affairs, has more than 20 different digital images on display, all depicting something different for viewers.
"It's digital photography of things that look different than they normally do," Seel said.
For example, Seel took photos looking through a martini glass, offering a different view for the viewer.
"I take a photo and I transform it into something else and that's what it is," he said.
Seel said he can't describe many of the photos, and invites people to view the photos themselves to draw their own conclusions.
Many of the photos feature close up shots, a vast variety of colors and sometimes contain several objects.
Seel also incorporates old objects or places to transform the photos into things that "look different."
"I like doing it and then work on the computer to make something out of it," Seel said. "The image is in the eye of the beholder."
Involved with this type of photography for about six years now, Seel's exhibit will feature about 19 photo prints on etching paper and three prints on canvas.
