Health plan choice for seniors
To the editor:
No All In One Plan
Seniors can change their medical insurance between November and January, so they are being targeted on TV for an "all-inone-plan" that will cover all their health care needs.
I've noticed their company has dropped the name Advantage Plan so you'll think it is something new. Believe me when I say, this plan is not to your Advantage. Let me explain.
Advantage plans take the place of Medicare, but you still pay for Medicare even though you no longer have it.
The insurance company decides what they will pay for.
You pay co-pays to see a doctor or go to the emergency room. $30. $40. $50.
You'll get bills for things Medicare would have paid, if you still had Medicare.
What you need is a MEDIA-GAP plan. Medicare pays 80 percent and the plan pays 20 percent. You pay 0 if Medicare pays it.
This may cost you more, but in the long run you'll be ahead.
