I read with a interest the article that was in the paper recently about the new hospital in Baraga County.
The Gazette should take a poll of the residents of Baraga County to see who is in favor of this new hospital. I can pretty much guarantee you that the majority are against it and feel as though it has been rammed down our throat by the Hospital Board. They don't seem to care how the citizens and employees feel. They are moving our hospital out of the village limits, putting it up on U.S. 41, making it less accessible to the public and eliminating jobs.
Yes, our hospital probably does need updates, but we do not need a new one. They are eliminating the Long Term Care Unit from the hospital and as we all know we don't have a maternity unit or pediatric ward. And there are many, many times when there are only a handful (2 or 3) of inpatients. All the while the patient count is going down the upper management jobs seem to be holding steady or going up.
We keep on hearing that this hospital won't cost the taxpayers anything, but are you kidding? I will bet that down the road they will be asking for a millage like they always do. Remember the last time they asked for millage they lied to us.
