Deborah M. Lewis

OCONTO, Wis. - Deborah M. Lewis, 48, of Oconto, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at home.

She was born on August 10, 1960, in Rapid City, S.D. to John and Barbara (LaFex) Lewis. Deborah was raised in South Range. She graduated from Minnesota School of Business and attended Suomi College and earned her degree in Business from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay.

Deborah was self-employed, working as a realtor with Broadway Real Estate in Menominee, Mich. She was also a licensed assessor in the State of Michigan. She and her brother, Gordon, were owners of Lewis Trucking and Excavation. Deborah went to Menominee over 20 years ago from U.P. Ship Building in Ontonagon to work for Marinette Marine. She has also worked for the last 17 years as a purchasing agent for Menominee Schools.

She was most happy when she was on or near water. She was an excellent swimmer, loved to downhill ski, ice skate, motorcycle, four wheel and golf.

She was a life member of the VFW Ranger Post 6165 Auxiliary of South Range, Trillium Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Hancock; as well as a member of the Wisconsin Board of Realtors and past member of the Upper Peninsula Board of Realtors.

Deborah is survived by her parents, John and Barbara Lewis of Dollar Bay. She leaves behind Jeffery Klenitz of Peshtigo and Steve Vandenberg of Menominee, two men who were part of who she was. She also follows Ludwig "Skip" Mayerhofer, her partner in life, who died June 15, 2009; two step-children, Michael Klenitz of Menominee and Seaman David Klenitz on the USS Abraham Lincoln. She is also survived by three special children, Melissa, Samantha and Zach Mayerhofer, all of Oconto; one brother, Gordon (Nancy) Lewis of Eckerman, Mich.

Family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, July 2, 2009, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Cadieu Funeral Home in Menominee.

Memorial services at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Bonnie Turner officiating.

Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home in Oconto is assisting the family with arrangements.
