CALUMET - It's getting to the point where cellular telephone usage is rivaling landlines, and Sounds & Motion is acknowledging that fact by opening a second store, which will concentrate on cell phones and service.

Bryan Scott, owner of Sounds & Motion, said although the new store in Calumet will feature cell phones, it will also have other automobile and home stereo equipment.

"We're still going to offer the same stuff as the Houghton store, but the focus is going to be on AT&T wireless and some other landline stuff," he said.

Those other AT&T items include landline telephone sales and service, Internet service and Advanced TV.

Scott said Sounds & Motion opened in 1998, and was in various locations over the next few years. It's been at its current location on M-26 for four years.

The decision was made to open a second store after a discussion with company representatives, Scott said.

"The AT&T corporate office approached me and offered me the opportunity to open the store," he said. "We accepted. We're excited about it."

No other retailers in the area are offering the same AT&T products he'll be offering, Scott said.

Besides the AT&T products and services, Scott said the new store in Calumet will also offer home stereo equipment and electrical supplies, such as cables and batteries.

"It's really going to be like a small electronics store," he said.

Scott said he isn't concerned about opening another store during the current poor economic conditions, because the products he offers are recession proof.

"Even with the condition our economy is in, wireless is still growing," he said. "Everybody has to have a phone."
