Plinth — PLINTH — a heavy base that supports a statue, vase, etc.

Example: "A writer to the New Yorker, decries 'the biggest threat to our planet remains global capitalism; as long as there are profits to be made from burning fossil fuels, someone will insist on doing just that, and that is the plinth upon which we stand — aware and yet deciding to ignore it.'"
