Brinkmanship — BRINK-man-SHIP — the practice of pursuing a dangerous policy and going too far, typically in politics or commercial operations

Example: "In Gross' article on the Hostess Brands going bust: 'At first blush, the brinkmanship over Twinkies — Twinksmanship? — was a case of junk bonds meeting junk food and producing a junky result.'"
