Lingua franca — LING-WAH FRAHN-KAH — a language adopted as a common language between speakers of a variety of languages

Example: "In a Newsweek article about Mark Zuckenberg, it remarked that he is 'a lackluster IPO who, for some people, can't dent the fact that this guy who created Facebook in his dorm room has made the lingua franca of our time.'"
