Stasis — STAY-sis — a period or state of inactivity or equilibrium

Example: "In a letter to the N.Y. Times, Bertha Rogers writes, 'I'm happy to have seen so much of our incredibly beautiful and diverse country. This stasis is hard to believe: Why do young people want to just stay put, why are comfort and ease more interesting than risk and change?'"
