Halftime Thoughts: Saginaw Valley State (Women)
February 23, 2012 - Michael Bleach
It is 31-13 here in a palindrome halftime lead.
And if the Huskies could hit a 3-pointer, it wouldn't even be that close.
With Saginaw playing both a 2-3 and 3-2 zone, the Tech women have just toyed with them today. The Huskies are 14-32 from the field, but remove the 1-10 shooting from three and they are a strong 13-22 from two-point range.
Most impressively, Tech has recorded 12 assists on 14 made field goals.
The high-low post game has been devastating, no matter who is on the floor. Kate Glodowski has probably been most impressive, recording six points and three assists in 12 minutes, but Lynn Giesler (eight points), Lindsey Lindstrom (seven points) Emily Harrison (four points) and Taylor Stippel (four points) have all found room for open five footers.
Add to the fact that Saginaw has given up five offensive rebounds and is being out-rebounded 22-14 and you have to ask, what is the point of the zone? Play man defense like real, umm, women.
For Tech, their man-to-man has been stifling.
The Cardinals shot 4-22 in the first half and turned the ball over 10 times.
